Our story
Why We Created this Community
I am a lawyer, an educator and an advocate for children living with cerebral palsy in Canada.
I have been assisting families caring for children living with cerebral palsy for over a decade. I advocate in the courtroom. I teach at the law school. I sit with parents in their living rooms and listen to their concerns. I work in collaboration with a team of medical and legal professionals, each dedicated to improving the lives of children living with cerebral palsy.
" Together we are CP Support Canada and we are making a difference in the lives of families caring for children with cerebral palsy - one family at a time. "
Our goal is to help parents understand and protect their child’s legal rights. When a child is entitled to financial compensation to provide for their care, therapy and equipment needs over their lifetime, we help these families put funding in place in the form of a trust fund in their child’s name. When financial compensation through the legal system is not available, we help families find community resources and supports for their child.
It is a privilege to connect with and help these families, and I have made many new friends in the process.
This is what I have learned along the way:
- Parents want to make informed decisions about their child’s future and provide their child with every opportunity to reach their full potential;
- Children with cerebral palsy are resilient and determined – they will make the most of every opportunity they are given;
- There is a gap that needs to be filled – a gap in knowledge and a gap in funding.
CP Support Canada was created to fill that gap.
